I thought this was an excellent scene because it is very remniscient of real riots and crowd mentality. Some of them can do it without touching the cars they send their lines of power out from their bodies and they are laughing.” “They are going car to car, setting the motors revving and the engine blocks burning into molten heat. We see it all throughout the novel but the first instance that was really intense and visceral for me happened on page 64 during the first occurence of a womens riot, We as people have this horrible ability ot be corrupted by an increase of power and Alderman illustrates that perfectly. This book has a very intense and scary message about power. Women can inflict terrifying pain with just a twist of their wrists, how will this change the world? Times are quickly changing and a mass reversal of power is capturing the world by storm. Women around the world are having an electrical power woken up inside of them. The Power shakes with such ferocious intensity that it is impossible to put down once you’ve started. 6/12/2023 0 Comments I heart london by lindsey kelkShe found an agent through a roundabout route having sent out copies of I Heart New York to various agents and having received several rejection letters, one agent got in contact with Kelk. She immediately decided that it would be a series of books, each taking in different cities, partly inspired by her teen experience of reading the Sweet Valley High series of novels. Kelk was inspired to write her first book, I heart New York, after returning from a holiday to New York City to her home in London, England, and being unable to get over post-vacation blues. To date, she has published 19 adult books and is also the author of the children's book series, Cinders and Sparks. She was initially signed up to a three-book deal by publishers HarperCollins following the submission of a manuscript for her first novel. Lindsey Kelk is a bestselling British author, journalist and formerly worked as a children's book editor. With Mostly Dead Things, Kristen Arnett has crafted an astonishing debut novel that’s both a new entry in the long history of great fiction about grief and a darkly comic flight of brilliance that transports the reader to a familiar yet alien world of frozen moments and dysfunctional love. Some are entirely somber, others gloriously comedic, all speaking to an essential truth about the profound and often bizarre ways in which we mourn. Grief takes many forms, and those many forms have been translated into many great novels of astonishing tonal variety. Peggy Barton and Ted Barton are travelling in a car in the Virginia backcountry. As Mary leaves, Peter takes up the clay and begins reshaping it. Trilling discusses here allergies with the doctor. They are making clay into various shapes, including animals and machines. Peter Trilling and Mary are playing on the porch of a boarding house with some other children. With the help of the creator god’s offspring, Barton distrust the balance between these two gods, restoring the town in the process. As he investigates, he learns that the town was actually transformed by a destroyer god as part of a cosmic struggle with creator god. Its plot centers on the mystery of a middle-aged man–Ted Barton–realizing that the town of his childhood has completely changed. The Cosmic Puppets was originally published by Philip K. 6/11/2023 0 Comments Pleasantville novelOut of this fairly standard magical realism setup, Ross’ script aims higher with its central themes. When they break the TV remote in their ensuing row, a mysterious repairman (Don Knotts) comes along and propels them both into the black-and-white world depicted in the show. On the eve of a big-money trivia challenge, David’s twin sister Jennifer ( Reese Witherspoon) wants to watch a concert on MTV instead. In the film, high-schooler David ( Tobey Maguire) is a child of divorce and a devoted Pleasantville geek, who clearly enjoys retreating into the uncomplicated exploits that the quaint and inoffensive program represents. Scanning more like a feature-length Twilight Zone story than a knockabout fantasy comedy, this technically brilliant film weaves an interesting teen movie-cum-civil rights drama around a fictional 1950s sitcom called Pleasantville. Judging by the numbers, it certainly didn’t help its box office performance at the time. When Gary Ross’ Pleasantville was released on DVD in the UK, its cover bore a Total Film review pull-quote labelling it as “ The Truman Show meets Back to the Future.” It’s the kind of description that sounds bang-on but doesn’t actually do the film any favors. 6/11/2023 0 Comments Temple by Matthew ReillyI’ve never done the math, but I think Australia would win based on sales per capita, but Holland would come a close second. Which country gets the best sales based on population? And overall? Friendship, trust, and responsibility are major themes as Sera struggles to grasp that she is really her kingdom's only hope. Donnelly then adds layers of complexity to the tale and weaves her story into that of Atlantis. It starts with a common enough concept: a royal girl who is worried about her betrothal and about love. There's also plenty of romantic tension with handsome mermen, strife between merls (that's girl mermaids) from rival regions, and some powerful female friendships amid the fast-paced plot, filled with wondrous magic."- Booklist, PRAISE FOR DEEP BLUE "A fantastic addition to the genre of mermaids, this book will also appeal to readers of action and those who appreciate usurped leaders taking back their kingdom. PRAISE FOR DEEP BLUE "Best-selling Donnelly (Revolution, 2010) builds an alluring mermaid civilization and history, filled with painterly descriptions of Sera's underwater palace and its unearthly architecture, her sumptuous wardrobe, and the menagerie of half-human, half-marine animal denizens. |
